There’s this unfortunate term that academia and the business world used to use, when a married couple decides to move to a new place so that one of the members of the couple can pursue an opportunity. This term is “the trailing spouse” (or “trailing partner”) and it’s meant to depict the person who has decided to uproot his or her life in order to follow their partner in pursuit of that goal. Traditionally the “trailing spouse” was a wife, though these days it might be a male partner who moves with his partner (who could be male or female) to follow the dream, and marriage is obviously not a requirement.
What if you got into bschool — or are hoping to, and you have a partner who is obviously a big part of your plan?
