So you decided for whatever reason has come up in your life that you are going to ask to defer your MBA start till next year. You read our recent post and you know that most schools don’t often grant them, but you really feel that you need to fully explore your options and it’s important to at least see what they say. How do you go about it?
(Oh wait – first a quick note – asking for a deferral is not the same as what some schools called Deferred Admissions which is an application option offered to current college seniors. Deferred Admissions is when the applicant is intentionally applying earlier than when they plan to attend. This application option is only open to certain types of candidates – again, usually it’s those currently actively finishing a previous degree program. What we’re talking about in this post is when you apply through their standard admissions cycle for a seat in the next entering class, and then you want to ask them to place you into a future class instead. This is called a request for a deferral and it’s different than Deferred Admission. Just wanted to get that straight at the outset.)
