It’s important to set expectations. To do so this season, we could just refer you back to these posts from the last few admissions cycles:
What does it mean to be “differentiated” in the context of your MBA applications? Part 1 and Part 2
Also: A pre-emptive warning post about who will make it into Harvard
We’re all about fresh takes too though, so let’s talk more today about HBS and the MBA and what you’re looking at if Harvard is your dream school.

Now comes the Shameless PlugTM…
When we do our Comprehensive Profile Reviews for BSers, we can usually tell pretty easily if they are “the Harvard type.” It’s always possible that someone’s presentation developed through the process of finding their voice in their Harvard essay comes together in a way that earns them an admit even when the profile seemed a bit dime-a-dozen when reviewed at the beginning of their process. However, this is rare. Usually we can tell quite clearly if someone has a real shot at Harvard (or Stanford, or Wharton, or any number of other schools). We’re not 100% on these obviously but the track record is pretty darned good. In case you’re looking for insights into exactly how you may fare at the schools on your list.
And of course, we go into depth on all of these points in our HBS Admissions Guide.
Tell us what you think.
