There’s no amount of “Cheer up! It ain’t so bad!” that we can do to convince those of you who’ve been placed on the waitlist that this is anything but a bummer.
It is. A total bummer. It’s rare that someone really expects to be waitlisted. Usually, you’re expecting to be admitted, when you make it this far, through the anxiety of the interview invitation and actual interview experience, and then riding out the weeks until hearing the news.
You may have dabbled with the “What if I don’t get in…?” kind of thinking, because everyone has their moments of self-doubt and discouragement, but probably you mostly were hoping/praying/dreaming that it actually would end up as an admit.
And now this. “We would like to offer you a spot on our waitlist…”
What do things look like at this point, on March 23, 2021, for someone to make it off the waitlist and into a high-end business school from Round 2? (Or Round 1, if you were waitlisted then?)

Lots of moving parts and we can dig in deeper if you want to avail some services for input into your specific situation — the aforementioned Waitlist Assist or if you have a straightforward question, we have a Private Consult which is very low cost, or heck you could leave a question on any relevant post on the EssaySnark blahg if you wanted to lay out your situation and ask for some feedback — that way, others can potentially benefit from our exchange with you, too.
There’s also the Getting Off the Waitlist Guide which has lots of ideas for actions to take and how to go about the process of constructing a workable strategy to get you through this phase of the cycle.
Nobody asked to get placed on the waitlist, but if that’s where you’ve ended up, then as much as you may not believe us, it really is a situation that could work in your favor — but it truly depends on which school we’re talking about and the specifics of your individual profile.
We hope all waitlists for all Brave Supplicants convert to admits, and that those happen in the near term and it does not get dragged out for you too long!!!
Or, that you only get waitlisted at schools you didn’t really want to go to, since you already got in somewhere else!!!
