The Round 2 calendar is so much different from Round 1.
With Round 1, deadlines are spread out over a whole month, but then it seems that decisions all come at once.
For Round 2, deadlines are packed within about five days, and then decisions are spread out so that it can take for-ev-er from the first news you get, till the final decision is announced.
Honestly, and we’ve made this complaint before, but the schools really should look at this. The cluster of deadlines in the first week of January are seriously stressful for so many people, and then there’s this major delay at the end of the process as final outcomes gets dragged out. Which is its own form of stress.
You’ve probably already been trained to keep your cell phone nearby at all times, and to pick up calls from unknown, blocked, or unfamiliar numbers. Because adcoms may be calling with happy news!
Those can be awkward conversations, since you’re often caught off-guard, answering the phone at an unexpected time or interrupting a meeting to take the call, and it can stun you into silence when they say that they’ve got a spot in their class for you. Many people burst into tears — especially right now, with so much stress happening. Don’t worry, the admissions person who’s calling you won’t judge you for it! They may get emotional, too. Someone crying at news of an acceptance to a top school is kind of a sweet thing to experience.
Of course there’s also schools that won’t be calling some of you, and for that we are sad. It can be a tough experience to be refreshing the feed on those applicant forums and seeing so many others posting news of their phone calls, when yours isn’t ringing.
A lot of schools divide the phone calls up by geography, but even when it’s known that they’re doing that, there’s always exceptions and oddities that can jumble the sort order for who gets called first — so please don’t get too despondent if someone in your region posts that they got the call, and you are waiting waiting waiting and have not. The call still might come later or tomorrow! The schools try to get through the calls quickly because they know that people are stalking the forums and stressing out. It’s hard not to do that. After so many months of waiting, these last few days can seem like they come to a standstill!!
As before, we are eager to hear news of your outcomes — you can post updates in SnarkCenter if you care to share with the team how things are going for you. We hope the apps turned into admits!!
For those who are getting the disappointment of the waitlist: We will be going back to that topic in the coming weeks, to try and offer some insights and maybe tools to navigate the challenges ahead. It’s a tough spot to land in but it’s still likely to turn to the positive for many, based on how the rest of the season may unfold. Stay tuned for that.
For now, good luck and we pray that some unknown number pops up on your cell phone very soon!
