There’s a trust deficit across America.
It’s not going to be solved by voting in one person or another — but it would help to have a leader who models decency.
The amount that Americans have simply accepted lying, cheating, and bullying is astounding.
Yes there are multiple ways to view any event, however a fact is a fact and the truth is the truth. ALL politicians lie, this post is not saying that we have good alternatives anywhere. No matter who you believe is better to lead the country, they have flaws, and they have done horrible things in their past history of employment.
A “leader” who sows divisiveness, who encourages his followers to intimidate those who don’t agree with him, who revels in chants to “lock up” his political rivals, this person is not helping us, and this person is responsible for the culture that exists in America in this moment.
Not fully responsible. This person did not invent racism and hatred. And, it is America that elected this individual to the position he holds.
We’ve been puzzled and dismayed so many times over the past five years that Americans can’t get behind a basic value of telling the truth. If we don’t have a leader we can trust, how can we say we have a leader at all?
Equally responsible is the media machine that promoted this person’s ideology throughout this land. All of broadcast television is culpable, however one television property gave this individual a platform and amplified his messaging, making excuses, downplaying the betrayal of American values.
This election was at least as much about people voting for what TV channel they watch as it is about an actual set of values or ideology.
We’ve been puzzled and dismayed so many times over the past five years that Americans can’t get behind a basic value of telling the truth. If we don’t have a leader we can trust, how can we say we have a leader at all?
What does this have to do with business school?

Culture is more than the leadership, but it’s nothing without leadership.
Culture is worth paying attention to.
Each of us contributes to it, yet the tone is set from the top.
