($) Are we seeing stronger applicants this year?

October 13, 2020 by EssaySnark Leave a Comment

Yesterday we went reminiscing about what last year’s admissions season was looking like in mid-October of 2019.

You may have read that and thought, “Who cares!??”

If you did, thank you for humoring us anyway.

Yesterday’s post sets up today’s:

What are the trends and expectations that we are perceiving NOW, for the CURRENT admissions season already underway?

In other words: What’s your competition like this year?

The moral of this very long story is that unless and until you win an admit in hand, you will want to plan for more apps in Round 2 no matter what type of strategy you executed for Round 1. That you should assume this process may take awhile, and that there will be many, many “waitlist” outcomes in December.

And, we hope that we’re wrong!! We hope for your sake that app volumes have slid down, and that the schools will be so impressed and amazed by the incredible work you put in on your Round 1 applications that they’ll usher you straight into their programs and shower you with all the love in the world as they experience a drought in interest and they have to court you with all that they’re worth. (Sometimes that happens! No really, it does!)

These are all parts of the situation that you cannot control, so focus on the parts that you can: Prepping well for your interviews (we know you will get invited soon if it has not happened already!). Don’t be complacent or assume you’ll get in until you actually have. Keep your eye on the ball, and make sure that when the music stops, you will have a chair to plunk yourself down in — and if you’re not sure where that chair is going to be, keep dancing until you find it.

So who the heck is EssaySnark, anyway?!

We're the snarky experts in MBA admissions!

Sometimes amused and often appalled by what candidates write in their MBA applications to top bschools, EssaySnark created this little blahg to share common mistakes. Learn from them and avoid making admissions directors laugh (or want to hurl) when they read your essays. If you are hoping to have your essay reviewed anonymously on the blahg for free, submit it for consideration.
