Your first goal with writing an essay needs to be to answer the question.
Your next goal is to write in a way that doesn’t give your reader a headache.
Both of these are apparently surprisingly difficult.
If you don’t meet the first goal, the reader may finish reading but feel dissatisfied because the essay did not come through with the request that the adcom made to you in applying.
If you don’t meet the second goal, it’s highly likely they will just put the essay down and move on to the next app in the stack.
There are a lot of apps that your adcom reader has to get through today. Don’t make them not want to read yours.
