($) Coronavirus and career goals for the Class of 2023 applicants

May 6, 2020 by EssaySnark 2 Comments

First, news from industry: Yesterday Amazon announced that any of its workforce who is able to work from home is now allowed to continue doing so until at least October 2nd . So, for all those summer internships… well, we just don’t really know. It’s also the furthest-out date we’ve heard a company announce on so far.

But we’re actually in the midst of an extended discussion of career goals in MBA essays. We started yesterday with a promise to share with you EssaySnark’s prediction for what the top MBA programs will be receiving from applicants to their Class of 2023 in career goals essays, starting this summer for Round 1 applications…

And we managed to not exactly share that prediction! We wrote a huge long post about the history of MBA career goals pitched to top schools over the past ~20 years and it just got a wee bit lengthy.

But we promised to come back and finish up today, so here it is! (But if you missed it, you should still go read that other one first. If you’re like stuck at home bored with nothing else to do. It’ll take you at least 1.49 minutes to get through it! Which will prevent you from clicking onto Facebook for that much time, which means, who knows? maybe something new actually will show up there when you click back again.)

Practical advice coming out of today’s prediction? If you’re looking to apply this year, think through some other options for what you might want to do with the MBA. We honestly don’t really advise an attempt todifferentiate on career goals as viable strategy for getting into school in most cases, but there are always exceptions. To increase the odds that you’ll be able to stand out from the crowd, you may want to start giving this some thought. Not because you’re going to make up goals just to impress your admissions reader. But because you want to show that you know what an MBA can do for you personally, based on what you have done before — and you’re doing more than using a very basic what-everyone-says type of response to the question that they are posing.

And oh yeah: We’ve got the Career Goals App Accelerator that will give you direct feedback and clear analysis of the goals you put together, to see if they will stack up!

    Hi! Thanks for the article.

Any early prediction on how the COVID situation, if not alleviated, will impact the admission odds for the next cycle (Class of 2023) especially for HSW?

Hey there! Yes! We talked about that explicitly back in April in this post on Round 1.
