EssaySnark’s admittedly self-serving posting of comments from a former BSer

May 24, 2019 by EssaySnark Leave a Comment

Sometimes, it takes longer than you like to get where you want to go.

But if you don’t give up…

Last October (2018), we received this update from a BSer who first wandered into Snarkville in early 2017.

They had unfortunately only found us after having tried unsuccessfully the previous season, so they were working on a reapplicant strategy.

Getting into a top school has been difficult for generations now, but the 2016-2017 era was particularly grueling. Too many well-qualified candidates were turned away from not just the toppity-top schools, but the very-good schools too. It was near the beginning of the ramp-up to ridiculousness, where GMAT scores started rising to crazy heights and all the adcoms got to be super selective. It was a buyer’s market.

BSers like this person suffered. It didn’t work out in 2017 either.

This person did not give up.

And here’s the note that we received this past October, published with permission:

I GOT IN!! I got the call yesterday. The same guy who conducted my interview called me up and told me I was in. Feels kind of strange to be honest with you. I’ve been actively trying to get in for the past 3 years and I’ve had the dream of going to a top business school for almost 6-7 years now. The feeling that I finally made it past the finish line, especially at an M7, Ivy League school like [redacted] is kind of unbelievable.

Now that I’ve been admitted, all the things that I was ignoring, stuff like how am I going to pay for this, where am I going to find a place in NYC that won’t bankrupt me are all coming to the forefront. I’ve picked up your admitted student guide and I am working on all these things now.

Which brings me to the next part of this message. I cannot thank you enough for all the help and wisdom you’ve shared with me over the past years. During my work on my application, [which this BSer did mostly on their own this past season] I had looked through my “Feedback” section [in the private SnarkCenter client portal where feedback from EssaySnark is posted for paying clients] for past comments from you. I have taken almost every consulting service you provide over the years and I could see just how much time and energy you have invested in getting my application as strong as possible. I also saw that your advice from the Comprehensive Profile Review is what eventually came true. I got a 760, I applied to a program that was targeted to my profile and I got in. Your level of understanding of the admissions game and the schools as well as the clarity with which you express it, is really remarkable. I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you’ve done for me over the years. And this is definitely not the end of our communications. I would like to give back to the EssaySnark community by sharing my experiences when I am at [redacted], regarding the school, it’s programs, or whatever. I think you could start a program where your past clients can volunteer to have their info shared on the EssaySnark website for your new clients to communicate with. I’ll let you know what happens in the coming months. I’m going to have a F-ING big party this weekend, I think I’ve finally earned it 🙂

So. Can’t really add anything more to that. Yes, totally earned it. Reading that is so gratifying. The whole reason we do this is to help all you peeps. It gives everyone here at EssaySnark so much satisfaction to hear that we actually are actually able to do that, with the efforts we’re making with you BSers.

Congrats to this BSer, again, who is headed to an M7 (even though you know we don’t care for that label 😉 ) — they deserve all the success in the world.

And by the way, they weren’t kidding when they said they have used pretty much every service we offer – here’s a list:

  • The Reapplicant Roadmap
  • The EssaySnark Countdown
  • Career Research Starting Point: Entrepreneurship
  • Accomplishments & Achievements App Accelerator
  • Reworking Your Resume App Accelerator
  • 5 different school-specific MBA application guides
  • Essay Decimator
  • Essay Ideas App Accelerator
  • Sanity Check
  • MBA Interviewing Guide
  • Custom Interview Prep Questions
  • Accepted Student’s Guide

Phew! That’s a lot! But over the course of a two-year process, each step makes sense in the context of the time and staging that this person was in.

If you’re at the beginning of this process, and you want to kick the tires on EssaySnark’s services and see how we operate, and find out if we can add value to your own app process, then hit us up for a Comprehensive Profile Review which is the best place to begin. The admissions environment has softened in certain respects, for some classes of candidates, since the times when this BSer was trying, and we will do all in our power to help you maximize efficiency and make the most of the opportunities at hand in today’s admissions climate, in the hopes that come December, or maybe next Spring, you’ll be writing equally celebratory notes to us informing us of your great admissions successes.
