We know that you don’t come to EssaySnark for political stuff.
You’re here because you want to get into business school.
We get it.
And yet… These things are not unrelated.
Exhibit A: Our perennial advice on how best to prepare for your MBA interview at Harvard is totally pertinent to the advice we gave you yesterday.
If you’re interested in an MBA, then that means you want to improve yourself. Get educated. Expand your mind.
You’re interested in learning from others.
You want to re-enter the world of academia, of intellectuals. The free exchange of ideas and all that jazz.
There is a particular aesthetic of a research institution, where evidence is required to advance an argument, where the scientific method is practiced. Just as a reminder: Plagiarism is not OK. It’s not OK in your bschool apps and it’s not OK in political speeches.
The schools want to know who you are as a person. They care about authenticity. How you express yourself is one very strong aspect of who you are.
Now, to show you that we’re not going to be harping on only these specific issues over and over, we’ll also recognize the value of questioning the status quo — which, hey!! Berkeley Haas has as one of their Defining Principles. There is definitely a lot of energy right now going into upending the established practices and even some traditions. It’s not all being done quite as diplomatically as it could be, perhaps, but we are watching and waiting to see how things go from here – with a certain soundtrack playing in the background:
Coming around to what’s on many BSers’ minds today: Harvard interview invites!!
We explain what to expect on the interview section of our Harvard MBA page.
If you’re jumping up and down and can hardly contain yourself because you got an invite to interview at HBS or anywhere else, then please don’t overlook the importance of preparing. Here’s an article that went up this month from a smaller Richmond paper on using a mock interview to get ready for a job interview ; all that advice also applies for your MBA interview opportunity (oh hey! shameless self-promotion! Essaysnark provides a mock interview service!!).
There’s a bunch more posts here on the blahg too about interviewing, and of course we wrote a book on MBA interviews.
We wish you luck and godspeed! Let us know if we can help along the way.
