Yesterday someone went through our handy dandy Snark Selector which helps you figure out which snarky services might be right for you and they sent us this question at the end of it:
I submitted a number of apps round 1, got decent traction with interviews, but so far have not able to convert.
I am planning to apply to a few schools for Round 2 and want to know if you have the bandwidth to support me through the either the complete Essay Package or maybe the 4 school bundle. I realize that deadlines are coming very soon for Round 2 – but I am not starting from scratch – I have my career goals defined, thought out ‘why an MBA’, ‘why now’, my recommenders have their letters done and my essay-writing muscles are fully warmed up (plus work is going to be pretty slow the next couple of weeks)
My academic numbers are in-line [good GPA, strong GMAT] and I had adcom-initiated interviews at [four top schools], so I have to think I’m not doing EVERYTHING wrong, but clearly the series of dings is showing me that there is something I’m not doing right.
TL;DR Do you have bandwidth to support a candidate who tripped and fell Round 1, and needs help getting up and sprinting towards Round 2?
Our first response is, “Dang, that sucks.” Because we agree: This BSer had it all lined up. They still have one outstanding app so hopefully that one comes through!!! It only takes one! But if it doesn’t, this post is for them – and we sympathize, completely.
It’s awful to get rejected early in the season. It’s especially awful to get rejected after an adcom-initiated interview. It’s downright depressing for that to happen multiple times.
To answer their question: Yes we have bandwidth to support new BSers for Round 2!!
However, full disclosure: This week we were later than we like on getting stuff back to some current clients. There’s even one person patiently waiting for something that we’re literally overdue on (they were promised to get it yesterday and here we are today and as of this posting, they don’t have it in hand yet). We’ve fallen down this week based on all that’s happening behind the scenes. We’re getting out from under as we speak and that doesn’t happen often, but anyone reading this where we’re saying “Yes we have bandwidth” who’s awaiting feedback on a submission may be questioning it.
Every year at this time, we gear up
for the holidays for the busy period. (EssaySnark doesn’t have holidays – not because we’re a grinch, but because of deadlines.) That gearing-up got off kilter this month and our staffing behind the scenes wasn’t what it was supposed to be. But we’ve got that straightened out, and those waiting for stuff in Snarkville will get it soon, we promise! And we don’t expect that backlog to happen again going forward. Big apologies to those whose stuff got stuck in the queue!!
On timing for Round 2: The fastest we’ve gotten through the entire 4-School Set with a BSer was just over 3 weeks but that was an extreme case and it required extra payments for fastest turnarounds – which are always available to everyone, but which we realize not everyone wants to pay. Even if you were to get that add-on on everything you needed reviewed, you’d still end up paying significantly less than other consultants charge, so it’s all relative – but it can feel like nickle-and-diming if you’re having to cough up multiple fees at different times. So just realize that going into it: Speedy Review is available (details are in the Subscribers FAQ when you log into SnarkCenter as a paying customer).
If you are planning for at least one school with a slightly later Round 2 deadline, like Stanford, Darden, MIT, NYU, LBS, INSEAD, then absolutely, you’re totally equipped to finish the 4-School Set if you sign up today.
Or you could start with the Complete Essay Package – there’s absolutely time to get through all those steps for any school at all without having to go for Speedy Review on top. Anyone in the Complete or 4-School Set subscription automatically gets prioritized over “regular” submissions. Most people don’t realize it until after they’ve purchased and are in the midst of the process with us, but this prioritization is one of the most valuable benefits of both of these two services.
The 4-School Set includes the Complete Essay Package, so you could also start with Complete on your first school and then upgrade to get support on three more schools if you feel it’s going well and you’re comfortable with turnaround times and your progress, but it’s always cheaper to go for the biggest package as your first purchase. If you think you want to do the whole enchilada with us, then sign up and dive in.
Or, we always offer everything a la carte and on a standalone basis – essay reviews (or the HBS version), resume, and the Sanity Check if you did everything on your own and just want to make sure it’s on target and you have a chance. Or, if you want to find out what went wrong in a specific Round 1 app, the Post-Mortem Review. Just wanting to get essays reviewed and not sure which Essay Decimator to use? The Essay Decimator Comparison can tell you.
We work straight through weekends and holidays once the deadlines are here, and welp, THE DEADLINES ARE HERE! EssaySnark is on deck and committed to helping you get it all done. There will be a ‘Snark available every single day (and most nights) from now through the middle of January. If you want to use us, sign up and get started!
Before buying anything though: PLEASE READ THE PRODUCT PURCHASE PAGE CAREFULLY. And it wouldn’t hurt to read the whole HELP FAQ too. We lay out what we do and how we do it all over the site, and you need to comply with the policies in order to make all of this work. A key reason we’re able to offer seriously low prices is because of the structured process in Snarkville. We’ve had multiple new people in the last few weeks who didn’t stop to read it and they ended up delaying their submissions significantly (and irritating the squirrels).
For everyone who submitted stuff this week: Thank you again for your patience! We fixed the kinks in the system and are working through the backlog as we speak.
