We are always excited when a BSer we’re working with breaks into a top MBA program but perhaps never more so when it’s their first choice school. We saw several BSers get in through Duke Early Action this year and when we asked one of them if they were up for sharing their story on the blahg, this is what they sent in.
By way of backstory: When we originally saw the first drafts from this particular BSer, we could tell that this person thought those drafts were good. (Well, probably everyone who sends their drafts in for review thinks they’re good, it’s just how the process of writing essays works – you write stuff, you assume it’s good, that’s why you’re ready to get feedback on it.) In terms of writing quality and construction, these essays WERE good – they just weren’t on target for getting into Duke. This person had come at it from an angle that was slightly off, and when you start out a little askew, then it sets the whole thing to floundering. We were concerned about execution, and about the foundation, especially in the nature of the goals they were presenting. There are so many moving parts to a strong application.
What we were most impressed with from this BSer? Their attitude in how they accepted the feedback and worked really really hard to incorporate it. And apparently, it worked!
I got into Duke!!! Thank you so much for your help throughout the process! When I first started applying, I had completely written off going to an MBA consultant. It seemed like a completely unfair way for people who could afford to spend ridiculous amounts of money to get a small advantage over other applicants. But unlike the other consultants, your services were specific and affordable for any applicant. With the Comprehensive Profile Review, I received extensive feedback that made me feel confident that I could make it into a top MBA program, but also let me know exactly which areas of my application I would need to be especially careful with. The Resume App Accelerator made me realize how much work I needed to do on my resume, and by the end I felt extremely confident that I was presenting myself in the best way possible. And finally, the Essay Decimator Service saved my application! It made me realize that I was approaching one of the essay questions entirely the wrong way, and helped me learn how to showcase my strengths with specific and concise examples.
I also found many of the strategy guides to be extremely helpful. I’ve seen guides published by other MBA Consultants – they’re mostly just a repeat of information you can (and should) find by thoroughly reading the school’s website. EssaySnark’s guides provided me with a unique perspective on every aspect of my application, and supplemented the information I found through my own research.
I recommend EssaySnark to anyone applying to business school. Applying is a long and difficult journey, and while EssaySnark won’t give you the answers, they’ll coach you through the process and help you create an application that you can truly be proud of.
TO BE CLEAR: We did NOT ask for a review of our services when we hit this BSer up to tell their story – but we’re grateful that that’s what we got! It’s nice to get a perspective on how this stuff works from the other side. So, THANK YOU to this (former) BSer, and CONGRATULATIONS to you and to the other Duke admits who may be still lurking around here. It’s not easy breaking into this school these days. Pretty exciting stuff!
