Many of you are gearing up for interviews – bravo! It’s excellent to be in that position. Lots of schools admit somewhere near half of the candidates that they invite to interview, so you’re in a great spot if that’s your status.
How do you prepare?
Well, besides the obvious like picking up our MBA interview guide, you need to practice.
And, if you’re the type who tends to get nervous – which we assume all of you are that type – then here are some tips to help with the anxiety around public speaking .
Your interview is not going to be in front of a crowd, but it is a high-stress situation for most people and you are undoubtedly going to be feeling some emotions going into it. Not everything in that article will apply, but lots of it will.
Most important: PRACTICE. You cannot just read a list of possible questions to yourself and nod and say, “Yup, I know the answers.” You need to get in the habit of actually presenting your answers out loud – to a person. Even though you should be very familiar with your own “story” about your application to bschool, it’s a very different matter indeed to communicate that in a coherent pitch to a complete stranger.
Plenty of resources for interviewing available here. Good luck to all of you headed into this phase of the process!!!
