We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: We LOVE Duke’s essay questions this year. The first one – the set of short answers – is proving challenging to many, due to the limited space, but it’s a great way to consolidate your thoughts and actually figure out what in heck you want to…
So who the heck is EssaySnark, anyway?!
We're the snarky experts in MBA admissions!
Sometimes amused and often appalled by what candidates write in their MBA applications to top bschools, EssaySnark created this little blahg to share common mistakes. Learn from them and avoid making admissions directors laugh (or want to hurl) when they read your essays. If you are hoping to have your essay reviewed anonymously on the blahg for free, submit it for consideration.

This post is quite useful for the structure of essay. However, the more elusive essay this year of 25 random things also needs to be addressed in another article. The DUKE admissions blog is of quite a bit of help but what is the right mix in 25. how many maximum can explain something from resume?? how many can be weird things that are more on personal note like the examples of 25 things given on DUKE blog?? The examples of Duke blog are all people going into admission committee. They can afford to write all 25 as personal things. But a B’ser as you would call them would need to show achievements through this only due to lack of essays. so how many from work, how many from extracurricular and how many would you say can be really personal weird things like ‘I love my family and kids’ type as given in the blog??

“Needs to be addressed”?? Hm.
We actually think that Duke has been very forthcoming with information on what they want and expect with the 25 Things essay.
You should ALWAYS go off guidance that an admissions committee offers first and foremost – definitely the most important resource to leverage, certainly more than what any consultant can give.
To not do so is frankly the epitome of foolishness.
