I now realize that some of the language in my early drafts sounded like this essay. I remember the urge to use big (but real) words to describe my ambitions in hopes of impressing AdCom’s with my intelligence. Then I got some advice and toned it down. And I still have trouble expressing my ambitions in an essay the reads clearly.
The issue? I sometimes feel that if my goals statement is too specific I am limiting my potential. I might also be saying to the AdCom, “If I don’t end up achieving exactly what I am telling you now I will have lied and will have failed.” ES helped me understand that 1) AdCom’s know you can’t predict your life fully, 2) AdCom’s want people who can set clear and realistic goals because those people can (probably) evolve those goals in a well planned manner as they grown through the MBA program.
The MBA is a “transformational educational experience.” They expect you to change and grow.
