“School X, or School Y with $$$??” (Part 1)

March 1, 2012 by EssaySnark - Discusses Harvard, Kellogg, Wharton, Stanford GSB, Columbia

We’ve had this post half-written since December and never managed to finish it off, but we’re getting so many requests for it that we decided to put the margaritas away (what else do you think EssaySnark is doing now that deadlines are done?) and publish the thing. A couple BSers asked about this scenario recently….

We're the snarky experts in MBA admissions!

Sometimes amused and often appalled by what candidates write in their MBA applications to top bschools, EssaySnark created this little blahg to share common mistakes. Learn from them and avoid making admissions directors laugh (or want to hurl) when they read your essays. If you are hoping to have your essay reviewed anonymously on the blahg for free, submit it for consideration.

Thanks for posting on this topic! I am looking forward to reading the next installment. You’ve made some interesting points that I hadn’t considered (jerk to decent ratio). I have a feeling that it is going to be a difficult decision, but all in all it’s a great position to be in and I am thankful for it. Several months ago, when I was in the thick of writing (and hating) my essays, I could have never imaged this would be my reality.

Do you think there is any validity to thinking that the competition for the coveted positions say in consulting would be less at a top 20 school vs. say a top 5? I guess I am thinking that while there may be less offers extended at a lower ranked school it may be easier to stand out and therefore the probability of an offer may actually be greater than at a higher ranked school or maybe I am just making things up…

Mine isn't even a question of $'s they are about par but ranking… I don't think anyone can answer the question as to which school i should go to but at least you are providing non-biased advice on the decision.

As always keep it up essay snark and thank you!
