($) What do you want to do with your life?

December 15, 2010 by EssaySnark - Discusses Duke Fuqua Leave a Comment

We’ve said before that you need to know why you need an MBA before you can, like, be admitted to bschool. Shocking, but true. You can’t just “want” an MBA; the school’s admissions committee will expect you to actually tell them what you plan to do with it. You have to show how it’s a necessary pre-requisite for you to achieve some certain goal you’ve set for yourself. Remember, it’s about getting an education. (How frequently people seem to overlook this point.)

Troubled by all this? This part about career goals? That silly question of  “what do you want to do with your life?”

Today we have…  ::drum roll::   DUKE TO THE RESCUE!

EssaySnark almost had an X-rated moment when we saw this: Duke has laid out in black and white for you what CAREERS someone might want to target after bschool and what CLASSES they should take at Fuqua to get there — for a wide variety of both MARKETING and FINANCE career tracks.

This is about the most beautiful thing we’ve seen all year. It’s like the keys to the kingdom. It like TELLS YOU HOW TO GO FROM “A” TO “B”. Like, here you are, starting out from ground zero with NO MBA and you want to go into finance or marketing (whatever that means) but you don’t really know how or what it means or anything. And then you read through that and you UNDERSTAND. “I can get an MBA and go do THAT!”

OHMIGOD this is the Holy Grail people. On behalf of Brave Supplicants everywhere, we bow down to Duke in gratitude. Read it and be illumined.

If you want help on how to construct your goals — now that you know what you need to study to achieve them — check out the EssaySnark Career Goals App Accelerator. It offers a tutorial that tells you what makes for a good set of goals, and you’ll get to submit your goals for review by EssaySnark themself.

So who the heck is EssaySnark, anyway?!

We're the snarky experts in MBA admissions!

Sometimes amused and often appalled by what candidates write in their MBA applications to top bschools, EssaySnark created this little blahg to share common mistakes. Learn from them and avoid making admissions directors laugh (or want to hurl) when they read your essays. If you are hoping to have your essay reviewed anonymously on the blahg for free, submit it for consideration.
